The School Marathon is 4 days away! We have some very important and, we think, exciting news about this year’s annual school Candy Marathon. As you know, the Marathon is one of our primary—and the only mandatory—fundraiser we have at Saint John’s. The funds raised by the Candy Marathon go directly back into our tuition assistance and general operations funds.
We are excited to announce the special approach to the Candy Marathon this year! It was imperative to provide an event that allows for social distancing and is in compliance with all of our pandemic protocols. Keeping that in mind, we still wanted to offer an exciting event for our kids along with a great kickoff to our amazing St. John’s Parish Fall Festival. The changes we made to the Candy Marathon fall in line with how we have been diligently following social distancing and sanitation protocols throughout the school. The kids stay in their classroom pods, and sanitation happens around the building hourly. Do I Have to Run a Marathon to Participate? No! All you need to do is commit to walking or running on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 26. Be sure to make a video or a photo record of your run/walk—whether it’s 1 block or 1 mile or more—and post it to Facebook using #saintjohnlittlecanadamarathon. Here is the link to our Facebook or email to[email protected]. We would love to see pictures of yourself in Saint John School Spirit Wear. Need a Place To Walk? Ifyou don’t have a good place to walk near your home, we have prepared two routes (one mile and two miles) that begin and end at the school. Here If you are choosing this option, we ask that you be mindful of safe social distancing practices, and consider wearing masks if you are near other families. This will not be monitored by Saint John’s faculty or staff. We ask that you maintain proper COVID etiquette. Marathon Day Festivities Once you’ve posted your run/walk to Facebook, swing by Saint John’s School anytime between noon and 3 PM. Follow the same entry procedures and socially safe practices that you do for carline. The faculty cheerleading squad will be there to check your Facebook post, and your kids will earn their Candy Marathon Goodie Bag! If you’d like, listen to the tunes of the Teddy Bear Band and/or DJ Parker, from the safety of your car in the parking lot, or on our Facebook live-stream: Tune in around 1:00 PM! Curbside Pick-up To Go: Pick-up To Go allows for a delicious pulled pork ($8) or pizza ($1/slice) lunch, delivered straight to your car. Then swing by the Ice Cream Truck for dessert. For those who are feeling comfortable maintaining 6 feet distance, you are welcome to consider our Fall Festival Happy Hour, which will be serving drinks and musical entertainment from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Grand raffle tickets will be available for sale (you need not be present to win), and there is a Spirit Wear table, where you can place your order for a 10% discount on all your favorite Saint John’s gear. If you choose to leave your car, please be mindful of all social distancing best practices, including wearing masks, maintaining six feet distance, and sanitizing often. Fundraising Goal for Great Prizes: As a reminder, we have an overall fundraising goal of $25,000. If each student brings in $150, we will reach our goal. At a minimum, we are asking every child to raise $135, which must be submitted, in the envelope provided, to the school office by Friday, Sept. 25. Students earn up to 5 free dress passes (no uniforms!) for every $30 raised - so we hope this encourages students to collect above and beyond the minimum! Additionally, classrooms with the highest totals will win a super fun in-class party. You may donate on-line Here. Please see the video for instructions Here. We are all VERY excited to have EVERYONE participate in our socially safe Candy Marathon this year. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. A special Thank You to the Marathon Committee!
Also this weekend: Discipleship Sunday! Our campus will play host to a VIP on the 27th, when Archbishop Hebda kicks off a new series at the church called Discipleship Sunday. This is a recurring opportunity for families to gather for fun programming and interesting speakers. Everyone is welcome, and a full schedule of events can be found on the church website. Archbishop Hebda played an instrumental role in partnering with the Governor, which led to our students being able to attend school in person this year. Even if you're not a practicing Catholic, his presentation on Discipleship transcends many faiths, so please consider joining in on the discipleship. He speaks at 9:30 AM, on the ball field, if you can join us! This will also be live-streamed from the church's Facebook page.
Free Uniform Pass: Congratulations and thank you for reading this lengthy email, as there was a lot to share. Your reward is a free dress pass for your child! Simply email your teacher or the school office with the word "virtual" by noon, Wednesday, Sept. 23, and we'll send your free dress pass home with your student(s). They could use it Friday if they want!
Spirit Wear: Please do not forget to order your spirit wear HERE.We are proud of our school and look forward to more exciting things to come! Check out the great things that are happening daily on our school website, and follow us on Facebook.
