Principal Hurley Is Excited To Come Back To School

Dear Saint John's Families,

We had a great time at our booth, during the Vadnais Heights Heritage Days!  A big thank you to all parents and students who helped showcase our school.  Speaking of showcasing our school, there is new carpet in the classrooms, the building is being sanitized and waxed, and I can’t wait for everyone to see the school again!   

Please continue to read my newsletter, as essential information will be shared. This includes information about back-to-school night (9-1-21) and processes/procedures for the upcoming school year.   We continue to review safety guidelines.  Please note the following changes from my last newsletter:

Important Arrival:
A protocol from last year was completing a health questionnaire before the students and staff entered the building.  As we start the 2021 school year, anyone who enters the school will need to provide us the password for the day. All students will let me know the password as I greet them in the morning.  Please save the following link to your phone, email, or computer.

 COVID-19 testing:
If your child has any of the following symptoms, they might have an illness they can spread to others.

• Temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
• Sore throat
• Cough (for students with chronic cough due to allergies or asthma, a change in their cough from usual)
• Difficulty breathing (for students with asthma, check for a change from their baseline breathing)
• Diarrhea or vomiting
• New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever

Check your child for these symptoms before they go to school. Check symptoms for changes from usual or baseline health.
If your child DOES have any of the symptoms above:

• Keep them home from school
• Get your child tested for COVID-19.  (Antigen tests, sometimes called rapid tests). 
• Contact Karla Schultz at [email protected] or 651-484-3038 to report that your child is sick. We may ask some additional questions to help determine when it is safe for your child to return to school and about other people who may have been exposed.

ESSENTIAL PAPERWORK:
We ask that  every family fill out an Application for Educational Benefits (previously Free and Reduced Lunch form).  District funding for our school relies on the information from these applications.  Therefore, we need every parent to submit one asap, so we do not miss out on any funding available to us. See link below for the online application.  
More information on the Educational Benefits application:

• A new application must be completed EACH YEAR.
• These complete forms not only provide meal benefits but can help your school get crucial funding. 
• Applications can be completed online at https://frapp.isd623.org/ 
• Educational Benefits also impact your school’s funding and the district’s budget including state and federal dollars that may be used for administration, social workers, family liaisons, and more! The results of these applications are crucial to funding for things like Title 1.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT: Save the Date! 
Please save the date for Back-To-School Night on Wednesday, September 1st - 5:30 - 8:00.  September Movie Night will follow Back-to-School Night and feature Toy Story 4! 
Preschool Information Meeting 5:00 p.m. in the lower church
Middle School parent/student information meeting 6:00 p.m. in the lower church.

Volunteer This Year!
As our pandemic protocols shift to a more "normal" status this school year, we want to get ahead of the game on volunteering and how more parents can get involved firsthand in their child(ren)'s education.

The first step is to ensure you are registered and up-to-date on your Safe Environment training, a prerequisite for all adults who work with kids in our Catholic School System here in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Please contact Laura Haraldson ([email protected]) to check your status and/or get the process started. Important: You will not be able to volunteer, even on a field trip, until you have completed the requisite online training, put forth by VIRTUS and McDowell Agency. Saint John's Musical for 2021-2022
Saint John’s Musical will be Annie!  We will work with Totino-Grace, who will produce the program. Totino-Grace Theater staff will be at Saint John’s at Back-To-School night for sign-ups. We are excited to add this offering to our students. In addition, they will be signing kids up for dance and band!
