Many of you are eagerly anticipating news on our spring sports. At Saint John's, we are members of the St. Paul Catholic Athletic Association (CAA), and have been awaiting word from the CAA on the status of spring sports during the pandemic. You might recall that we only had soccer this fall and hockey this winter. I cannot thank you all enough for the patience and support in this crazy year!
As of last night, the CAA has shared:
* They will NOT be offering make-up volleyball, cross-country or football
* They WILL offer softball and baseball in spring
* TBD on golf and track, so stay tuned
* Activities would begin post-Spring Break, likely the week of April 12
As a reminder, the CAA supports middle school teams, and here at Saint John's sports are offered for girls and boys grades 5-8 (with the exception of swimming and tennis, which begin in grade 1).
Additionally, I'm working with the City of Little Canada to see how we might partner up on a tennis offering that transcends grades. This would be beginner/intermediate tennis training, not competition, but it's a start! More to come on that front as well.
What We Can Do Now: Softball & Baseball You are receiving this email because you at one point expressed an interest in sports at Saint John's. If you don't mind, please respond to me with an affirmative interest in either girls softball or boys baseball, and your child's/children's grade level. We are also still seeking coaching support; if you are at all interested, please let me know as well!
Of note: Preliminary polls suggested we won't have enough interest to field a girls softball team. If this is still the case, we might have an opportunity with Concordia for seventh- and eighth-graders only.
Getting Ready: Tennis, Golf & Track If your student is at all interested in participating in tennis, golf or track, even while they are not fully formalized yet, please let me know this as well.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out, and thank you so much for your patience with this unprecedented year.
