Lunch at school is part of the total learning situation and, as such, good conduct and manners are to be expected. Table manners and other lunchroom etiquette are discussed as a regular part of respecting others. Rules are posted in the lunchroom and the classrooms.
CKC is managing our breakfast and hot lunch program again this year.
On Friday, March 17, 2023, Governor Walz signed the K-8 Free School Meals bill into law. This will take effect with the July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024 school year. This legislation provides reimbursement for one free breakfast and lunch to K-8 students who receive meals through their school’s participation in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP). Schools that participate in the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National School Lunch Program (NSLP) must now participate in the state funded Free School Meals Program. Students in grades K-8 participate in the Free School Meals Program. A free meal is considered a whole meal. If your student would like milk-only to consume with their cold lunch, that is considered a-la-carte and parents will be charged for that milk purchase. At this time, the Free School Meals For All Program does not include students in Preschool or PreK, unless those students qualify for free lunch through Educational Benefits.
Breakfast
Breakfast will be available in the Gathering Space from 8:40 am-8:55 am. Breakfast will be served on the go. Please see that your students arrive in the Gathering Space between 8:40-8:55 if they would like to grab breakfast.
Ordering Hot Lunch
Teachers will record hot lunch orders every morning during attendance. During the lunch period, students will use their lunch pin numbers to record their purchases. If the student is receiving a free lunch, the system will record the meal, but not charge the student.
PayPams
We use PayPams as our lunch accounting software. Parents will have their own account through PayPams to prepay for purchases for students. Please see below for the basics on how to sign up. Additional information on PayPams is on the flyer linked below.

Educational Benefits
We ask that every family fill out an Application for Educational Benefits (previously Free and Reduced Lunch form). Preschool/PK students can still qualify for free meals if they qualify for Educational Benefits. We ask that you fill this out even if you don't believe you will qualify for free/reduced lunches. District funding for our school relies on the information from these applications. Therefore, we need every family to submit one asap, so we do not miss out on any funding available to us. We do not have an online application available this year, so we ask that you fill out a paper application and turn into the school office.
More information on the Educational Benefits application:
Should you have questions regarding our hot lunch program or Educational Benefits, stop in the school office or notify Kathy LaCasse at [email protected].
